2007 Jean Louis Tribouley Les Bacs Cotes Catalans

Jean-Louis Tribouley’s 2006 Cotes de Roussillon “Orchis” so excited tasters here, that when I was offered his other “Les Bacs” vineyard , I took five cases untested and on faith. Faith was rewarded when I opened a bottle, and discovered an old vines blend where the rich French horn of Grenache played and exciting duet on the palate with the high keening violin of old vines Carignan.
The five cases disappeared very quickly, one, I confess went home with me. It was difficult to say no, to the many people after that who wondered whether there might be any more.
Now there is.
But it is the 2007 vintage. In France’s southwest, it is very bit as rich as it is in the rhone and the 2007 Les Bacs is the thickest southern wine I have tasted yet. I opened a bottle one Saturday to test it, by Wednesday the fruit had thinned only enough to show the barest outline of leather and spice though. Six cases available after my one. it won’t last long.
