2007 Jean-Louis Tribouley
Back By Popular Demand

Jean-Louis Tribouley biodynamicly farms his small old vines estate in FranceÕs Mediterranean Roussillon. He is scrupulous about low yields, perfect fruit, and precise expression of his Rhone-style grapes and limestone terroirs.Ê
In a short time his winesÕ quality has given him a word-of-mouth reputation that has penetrated into the press only as far as the Wine Advocate's David Schildknecht who called Tribouley's 2005s his "personal revelation of the past year and represent the most extraordinary values in red wine that [he] can recall having tasted in a long time."
People who taste Tribouley wines become fanatics, Mostly from southern Rhone grapes they are spicier, more defined, more intriguing than anything at anywhere near their prices
People who got some of the 2006 Orchis and les Bacs have been asking me when the 2007s would come. The Les Bacs has come and nearly all gone. We just got the Orchis andÊ
We have two, Orchis, a seventy-year-old vineyard of two thirds Carignan and one third Grenache, and a new wine Tribouley calls lÕAlba, predominantly Syrah with some Grenache and Carignan. The 2007 Orchis is a softer and a bit gentler than the lean, racy 2006, with more richness and a bit less cut. It has underneath the same notes of bright carignan, firm limestone, and rich Grenache. It is more approachable and , I suspect will be longer-lived than the 2006.
The lÕAlba shows its Syrah right from the start with its broad black pepper plum. It is at the same time rich and almost weightless and curiously close to delicate, not a usual quality in a southern wine. I found it fascinating.
Seven cases of each came to the state. The distributor kept one of each for himself. We got all the rest, which leaves five and a half after my mixed case.
