This Week's Tasting

Castello di Volpaia at night

Peter writes
Castello di Volpaia, in Radda, one of the best locations in Chianti Classico, is a unique property, in being both a winery and a town. Over the last twenty years or so, Carlo and Giovanella Stianti have worked tirelessly to bring Volpaia into the absolute top ranks of Chianti producers. Today, they are assisted by their son Nicolo, (who is also a business executive in Milan) and their daughter Federica, who also works in art restoration in Florence.

We are very happy to welcome Nicolo Stianti, who will show the excellent wines of Castello di Volpaia for this week’s tasting. He will cover the winery’s entire range, from a Chianti sourced from vineyards in Colle Senesi on up to the single vineyard Coltassala Riserva. Regular customers will find this hard to believe, I have actually agreed to let Nicolo pour Volpaia’s single vineyard Sangiovese/Cabernet blend called Balifico. We will also be tasting the Volpaia Vin Santo which is not yet in the market but will be in about three weeks.
